Foul-line fatigue costs Pirates

The Pirates looked the goods up until the last two minutes of play in Monday night’s match against the 66’ers but a string of unlucky calls and fatigue at the foul-line ultimately proved fatal to the seafaring rogues, dropping their one-point lead over the 66’ers to end-up losing 27 points to 25.

After suffering a forty point defeat at the hands of the Pirates in their last match of the 2011-12 regular season, Ruff ‘N Ready came out thirsty for blood Monday night, narrowly defeating the Pirates 28 to 26.

Pirates leave it too late

The signs were positive for the Pirates in the opening exchanges of their battle with the Sex Panthers in this the first round of the 2012 CMG season. Both sides showed they were ready to play; the Sex Panthers though, took a 9-7 lead at the end of the first ten minutes play.

Pete Huet MVP for 2011-12

"Pistol" Pete Huet has been awarded the honour of being the Pirates 2011-12 MVP, amassing 93 points, 49 assists and 18 steals across 18 games and 348 minutes of playing time throughout the CMG season.

Skipper re-signs for another season

It has been well known throughout the Pirates that current Captain, Daniel Lillicrap’s contract officially expired at the conclusion of the 2011-12 CMG season and that the commanding shooting guard was in talks with other clubs with regards to his playing future. But late on Monday night, ahead of the forthcoming 2012 CMG season, Pirates management secured a continuing contract for a further season with the scurvy ridden seadogs.

Rivals renew friendship

Archrivals, the robotic Pandas, and the Pirates Basketball Club met in what was a fitting end of the 2011-12 season for both clubs. Despite going down to the Pandas 35 to 21, the Pirates did not let the result get in the way of good sportsmanship when Brett Andriolo (2 points) invited the Pirates into the winning locker-room at the conclusion of the game.
